It's safe to say that in Spain the holidays begin today, two days before Christmas Eve. Why? I just got done annually (1812) Christmas lottery El Gordo, the prize pool is more than 2 billion euros. Lottery is considered the world's largest and causes a lot of excitement around the country. Live draws you see on TV or hear on the radio. It lasts 5 hours, and the children sing the winning numbers from one of Madrid's schools.

Christmas Eve, or Nochebuena is like in Poland dinner as a family. On the tables dominated by seafood and fish, as well as cochinillo (dish of the young piglet) and lamb. For dessert, it is mainly turron, or almonds with honey. The main symbols of Christmas in Spain are nativity scenes and Christmas carols (villancicos belen s). Christmas Nativity scenes can be seen in every town, as well as Spanish home. They are very realistic and worked out to the smallest detail. Spanish carols are very happy, and their melodies catchy.

Dec. 25 Christmas, or Dia de Navidad. That day also them a lot and stays in the family circle. In some families Papa Noel visits the children and handed them gifts, but the custom is not as popular as in other countries. The Spaniards, according to tradition, they await the day of the Magi to handing each other gifts.
